Ledaswan live at Jacks Patio

Ledaswan recently helped Pop Pistol celebrate the release of their new ep. Friday, Apr 1 was the night they decided to release their new ep and a great show was set up at Jacks Patio Bar. Beside Ledaswan and Pop Pistol, the lineup also included Sandoz and Dance Like Robots. The show was a great success and we’d like to thank everyone that came out and enjoyed the music, bought t-shirts, CDs…you help support the local music scene and we thank you for that.

Ledaswan at SXSW 2011

Erica and I joined David for most of the week in Austin for SXSW 2011. We saw lots of great band s and great shows. Ledaswan was playing an unofficial showcase at Mi Madres restaurant on Saturday. The show started at 11am and Ledaswan was on at 2pm. Designer Genes kicked off the show followed by Rusty Vein. They played to a great crowd of hungry Austin folks who were enjoying their breakfast/lunch. Ledaswan went on and tore through The New 60’s. When the song was over we were informed that the police had showed up and were shutting the show down. Band members from the other 2 bands went over to speak with the police and convinced him to let us finish out our set. He gave us 20 mins to finish. Halfway through our set, I notice everyone, including the band looking all in the direction of the street and laughing. I sometimes play with my eyes closed. What I had missed this time was Michael Cera (yes, Scott Pilgrim) walking down the street while we were playing. Dammit! If that moment had a face, I would punch it.

Here are videos from that show. Enjoy!

Happenings Lately

Wow it’s been quite a busy few weeks since we’ve released our c.d. NUM83R5. We placed in Hogwild Records located on N. Main near SAC in San Antonio, TX and we are working on placing it in some other stores like Houston and Austin. We are also getting ready to send some c.d.’s to some internet radio stations that have requested our music.  We’ll keep you posted on that as well!  Our last show at Nightrocker Live for the El Perrito Tequila Bash went extremely well. We had a blast and want to give a shout out to Pop Pistol, Apaso, and When Words Attack for playing with us and playing such a great show. We now have T-Shirts for sale at all our shows. If you live out of state and would like to purchase a T-shirt we will be updating the site you can do that as well. Or contact us at erica at Ledaswan.net and you can purchase a t-shirt or c.d. through paypal and we can ship it to you! We also have our eco-friendly, hemp wrapped limited ed. NUM83R5 that will be made for purchase through paypal on our site.  Promise to have that squared away shortly.  And thanks to those that have already inquired about T-shirts and music that live out of state.

Anyhoo, now that that’s out of the way a bit more about what Ledaswan is up to. We are going to be holding some benefits to help us purchase a van so we can get on the road. Further road trips that our out of state and such. We are really excited about spreading our music throughout Texas and beyond. If you are interested in donating to our cause we will let you know how to do that as well. We want to be able to reach more fans and make new fans. Be sure to go out and support your favorite local bands in the city. It’s so important for you to support local music. I’m really surprised (but not THAT surprised) at some posts I saw on the 99.5 Kiss facebook page where peeps were complaining about their new format which consists of more commercial free music. They actually were complaining how they wanted to hear the same old tunes they’ve been playing for years! It just goes to show how a lot of people are in this time capsule. How will the “new” bands get discovered. Not through radio anymore….It will be through you going out to a venue to see a live act. So Please go out and support a band there are several things going on if you look in the San Antonio Current’s music listings or the Express News Weekender :-) okay kids? I hope everyone is doing well while we are also gearing up to write some new material that will be on NUM83R5 Vol. 2. Be sweet.

The Truth About Being in a Band

Everyone wants a piece of the pie. Either you’re in a band, an artist, or manager and you’re looking out for yourself or your project. You can share and take all the resources you want but in the end when you have the opportunity to “get ahead” you’re looking out for “number one.” It’s, after all, the “American Way.” Let’s face the facts. We live in a country that was founded on capitalism. Not socialism. The pilgrims and conquistadors didn’t come here to make friends and for equal opportunity. They were opportunists.  They came for the economic taking. Whether you like it or not, your band is a product and should be handled as a business. This may or may not be new news to you. It’s tough being an indie (independent band). Get ready for people to stab you in the back and to be under-appreciated. It seems that’s the ugly nature of the music business. Up until now I would say that’s our experience. I’ve heard other bands say we’re great, and other say we are the band everyone loves to hate (so be it)!  Bands we’ve shared the stage with have insulted us publicly that it’s almost uncanny how articulate they are. But at least there is controversy around us. I would rather be dangerous creatively than safe. When you’re in a band, even your inner-circle of friends may treat you like the red-headed-step-child. Getting put on opening slots even after proving you are clearly not an opening band. The other band is going to be looking out for themselves first. Always. It’s human nature. Not getting invited to play shows, or getting invited to play shows only to discover it was just an after thought. Is it that other bands don’t want you to give them a run for their money? Or is it just coincidence? Then there are clicks. Stay away from those. Although bands don’t want to admit it, they’re cliquish. Just when I started to think all you have to do is scratch someones back and they’ll scratch yours….well they missed a spot.
